After spending the first seven years of her teaching career at OneSchool Global’s Perth (Western Australia) campus, Sherryn Rowe took time off to start a family and support her husband’s construction career in Queensland. But when Sherryn and her family eventually returned to Perth in 2021, she immediately explored the idea of a return to OSG.
“When we moved back to Perth, I started talking to people about a return to OSG. I went and visited the campus where I still had great relationships and showed my interest in returning. Fortunately, the planets aligned and there was a great opportunity to take on a new role, so I took it with open arms.”
Despite being away for nearly four years, Sherryn says returning to OSG Perth was a comfortable experience because of the warm, supportive culture found on campus.
“Coming back to OSG Perth was like coming home. Some of the staff had changed, but when I walked back into the school it felt like I’d never left. The students and their families were so kind and receptive to me, so being welcomed back like that was incredible and really special.”
With two long and successful stints working at OSG, Sherryn is a passionate advocate for the school and the benefits it provides to educators looking for their teaching ‘home’.
“One of the best aspects for me is the work/life balance offered. They’re all about being family first and supporting you with those priorities. I know that if one of my kids is sick and I need time off, they’re 100% behind me being with them, which is really comforting.”
Sherryn also said that OSG has a strong focus on professional development and investing in its people.
“They empower staff to grow and develop in ways that you just don’t get at other schools. Thanks to our national presence, I can fly across Australia and see how my role is done at one of our other campuses. That helps us to connect, share knowledge and ultimately become better 
teachers.”
Another stand-out benefit of working at OSG for Sherryn is the highly engaged student and parent community.
“The student behaviour is unbelievable compared to other schools. I taught while we were living in Queensland and remember thinking ‘wow, my behaviour management skills aren’t up to scratch’, because I never needed to use them at OSG. They’re such a family-oriented community, so values like kindness and respect start at home and come through in the classroom. You can easily build relationships with students and their families because we’re all working towards the same goals.”
Sherryn’s final message to teachers considering a career at OSG is clear.
“If you’re a teacher with a growth mindset that loves working with a supportive team and willing to embrace our learning to learn framework, you can’t do anything but thrive in this environment.”
