Our Sydney campus students recently showed off their competitive spirit for a great cause, hosting a ‘Mini Olympics’ fundraiser in support of Special Olympics Australia.
From international-themed food and drink stalls to friendly rivalry between competing ‘countries’, the event raised more than $5,000 to help empower people with intellectual disabilities through sport, health and leadership programs.
Assistant Campus Principal, Layn Mellish, said the fundraising effort was testament to the hard work and charitable spirit of the students and school community.
“We wanted to finish the term with some fun, but we also wanted to encourage teamwork and creativity, so it was terrific to see our students bring this event to life.”
Mr Mellish said the campus’ Student Leadership Team (SLT) chose Special Olympics Australia as the nominated charity for the event.
“As it was an Olympics-style activity day, our SLT thought it was appropriate to raise money in support of athletes who sometimes don’t get the recognition or spotlight that other Olympians do. I’m very proud of what they were able to achieve and the manner in which they went about it.”
Bella from the SLT said organising fundraisers is one of the most enjoyable parts of their role.
“Fundraising events are great because we have a chance to show off our creative side and support worthwhile causes at the same time. We’re very proud of how the school community got behind this event and the contribution we made to Special Olympics Australia.”
A huge congratulations to our students for living our values, competing hard and making a real difference.
