OSG's Learning to Learn Framework

At OneSchool Global, the Learning to Learn (L2L) Framework is the foundation of our educational philosophy. It is designed to prepare students to become self-directed, lifelong learners who are equipped with the skills and strategies to thrive in an ever-changing world. This principle underpins everything we do: students should not only acquire knowledge but also learn how to learn.

What makes the Learning to Learn Framework Unique?

The L2L Framework transforms education from passive knowledge absorption into active, purposeful learning. It equips students with the skills to:

  • Think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Plan, prioritise, and execute with confidence.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively.
  • Adapt and innovate in any environment.

This is more than an academic model – it’s a life strategy. By graduation, our students are life-ready, prepared not only to keep up – but to lead.

The Core of the Framework

Our approach is built on four powerful components:

1. The Assignment
The Assignment is the foundation of all learning, and defines:

  • What the teacher will teach.
  • What the student can learn independently.
  • What the student must do to demonstrate learning.

Each Assignment is anchored by a Big Question, aligned to curriculum standards, and includes clear learning intentions, success criteria, checkpoints, and feedback opportunities. Assignments provide choice and tailored pathways, fostering autonomy and engagement.

2. The Lesson
Lessons are dynamic, teacher-led sessions that spark curiosity and deepen understanding. They connect directly to Assignments and focus on strategies that make learning stick.

3. The Study
Here’s where independence shines. The Study is student-led time for independent or collaborative work on Assignment tasks. It develops essential habits such as planning, time management, and self-direction. Students learn to make decisions about what to work on, where to work, and how to allocate their time.

4. The Tutorial
Personalised support when it matters most. During their Study time, students will organise Tutorials with subject specialist teachers to receive targeted guidance or extension, helping students overcome challenges and push their learning further.

Students begin to build the habits and skills of learning to learn right from the start of Primary, in a carefully designed and graduated way. Students begin Primary with just two Study periods each week, and progress steadily to 50:50 Lesson and Study by the time they reach the final two years of schooling.

Why It Matters

The benefits are clear:

  • Confidence and Autonomy: Students learn to take charge of their learning.
  • Future-Ready Skills: Critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability become second nature.
  • Real-World Preparation: Our model mirrors the environments students will encounter beyond school.
