This year, Primary students across OneSchool Global opened their LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits, rolled up their sleeves, and discovered just how much they could create when curiosity led the way.
A first for OSG, LEGO® Lab was a hands-on program that ran over several weeks between March and May 2026, giving Primary students a playful, practical route into creativity, problem-solving, coding and teamwork. Working through a sequence of SPIKE™ Prime and Scratch-based activities, students built their confidence, strengthening their Primary Learning to Learn (L2L) skills.
So, what exactly is a SPIKE™ Prime kit? It’s a LEGO® Education set that brings building to life. Students combine familiar LEGO® Technic pieces with motors, sensors and a small programmable hub – the “brain” of each model – then using simple drag-and-drop coding, make their creations move, respond and solve problems. In other words, the models the children built didn’t just sit on the desk; they could be programmed to do a real job!
The program culminated in a ‘final design challenge’, where teams had to solve a real-world problem using their kits. It wasn’t always smooth – and that was rather the point.
Students had to demonstrate resilience as they edited their code again and again until, at last, their robot executed the correct sequence of activities.
“What I loved most was watching children take charge of their own learning,” said Rachel Beyer, OSG’s Global Director of Teaching and Learning (Primary).
“From planning an idea, testing it, watching it not quite work, and going straight back in to try again – that’s curiosity and resilience in action, and it’s exactly what we hoped LEGO® Lab would spark.”
Each campus chose one winning team, and our Student Leadership Teams filmed every design for regional judging.
