OneSchool Global (OSG) campuses across Aotearoa New Zealand have continued their strong tradition of community giving, with students and staff at Hamilton and Maungaturoto raising funds for the Starship Foundation and Hato Hone St John through student-led initiatives.
At OSG Hamilton, students raised $858 for the Starship Foundation, New Zealand’s national children’s hospital, in a fundraising effort inspired by one of their own.
The initiative was driven by the journey of Recaro, a primary student who has been bravely battling leukaemia and has spent extended periods away from school undergoing treatment at Starship Hospital.
Students and staff organised an ice cream sundae station, creating a positive and engaging environment to encourage donations. As part of the day, Recaro shared his story with fellow students, presenting his “beads of life trail” – a string of beads representing milestones throughout his treatment journey.
Krissy Heeps, Campus Principal at OSG Hamilton, said the event was a meaningful experience for the community.
“Our campus is delighted to have raised these funds for the Starship Foundation.
“Seeing Recaro share his journey with his fellow students was a truly moving experience and a testament to his strength and bravery. His story reminds us of the vital care Starship provides to children and their families across New Zealand.
“As well as raising important funds, the event allowed us to show our support for Recaro and acknowledge the inspiring hospital staff who have been with him every step of the way.”
The Hamilton fundraiser builds on OSG’s wider support of the Starship Foundation, with campuses nationwide having raised more than $7,100 last year.
Meanwhile, at OSG Maungaturoto, students raised $413.80 for Hato Hone St John, coinciding with Road Safety Week 2026, themed “Road Safety Heroes.”
With St John paramedics and volunteers often first on the scene at road emergencies, the campus selected the organisation in appreciation of its essential work supporting communities across the country.
The Student Leadership Team organised a first aid-themed activity day, with students participating in a range of interactive challenges designed to build awareness of emergency response skills. The campus also ran a doughnut sale, with locally made treats proving popular among students and staff.
Babette Moehricke, Campus Principal, praised the efforts of students involved.
“The day was a wonderful success and enjoyed by all. It was fantastic to see our students engage so enthusiastically with the first aid activities while raising important funds for Hato Hone St John.
“We are proud to support an organisation that provides such vital services to communities across New Zealand, and grateful to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.”
Funds raised will support Hato Hone St John’s ambulance services, first aid training, and community health programmes.
These initiatives, and many more across the country, reflect OSG’s ongoing commitment to student-led fundraising and community engagement, highlighting the positive impact students can make in supporting organisations that provide essential care and services across New Zealand.
