Jason Cudby shares how his background in physical education, strong school values, and a supportive community have shaped his rewarding journey at OneSchool Global.
Since joining OneSchool Global Palmerston North in New Zealand’s North Island in early 2025, Deputy Principal Jason Cudby has quickly found his place within a school community that values high expectations, collaboration, and a genuine passion for learning.
With a background in physical education, Jason’s journey into teaching was driven by a desire to pass on his enthusiasm for learning and personal development to the next generation.
“I came into teaching through physical education because I wanted to share that passion with students,” he says. “It’s about helping them grow, not just physically, but in confidence, discipline, and mindset as well.”
Excellence on both sides
One of the aspects Jason values most about OSG is the quality of both its educators and its students. He describes the school as part of a far‑reaching network that attracts dedicated teachers from across the country, all committed to delivering high‑quality education.
“Our students get access to some of the best teachers around,” he explains. “That makes a real difference in the classroom.”
Students with a drive to learn
According to Jason, students at OSG Palmerston North come to school with strong morals and values, and a clear desire to learn.
“They hold high expectations of themselves, and they also expect a lot from their teachers,” he says. “They want feedback. They want to know what they can do better and what they need to focus on to improve.”
This openness to feedback creates a positive learning environment where students are motivated to grow and take ownership of their progress. For Jason, this mindset allows teachers to spend more time focusing on effective teaching strategies and meaningful learning experiences.
“You get to think more deeply about your pedagogy and what you’re actually teaching, rather than spending all your time managing students,” he explains.
A foundation of community
Beyond the classroom, Jason highlights the strong sense of community that defines the school. He describes a welcoming environment where staff, students, and parents work together to support learning outcomes.
“We’re part of a community here,” he says. “We feel welcome, and parents are right alongside us, helping every day to make sure students are getting the best possible education.”
Making the right move
Reflecting on his move to OSG, Jason describes the experience as overwhelmingly positive. The move has allowed him to grow professionally while staying closely connected to teaching and learning.
“Making the jump to OSG has been a really good experience for me,” he says. “If the opportunity comes up at OneSchool Global, I’d encourage others to take it.”
For Jason, OSG Palmerston North represents more than just a workplace – it’s a community built on shared values, high standards, and a collective commitment to helping students succeed.
