OneSchool Global is celebrating the achievement of team member Amber Church, who recently returned from the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup after officiating the women’s final, one of the highest honours in international hockey umpiring.
Amber, who is based in Gisborne in New Zealand, was appointed to oversee the thrilling championship match between the Netherlands and Argentina at the World Cup, co-hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium. The closely contested final was ultimately decided in a shootout, with Argentina claiming the title.
For Amber, the appointment marked another significant milestone in an already distinguished international officiating career.
“Being appointed to the final was a huge honour,” Amber said.
“At that level, the margins between umpires are incredibly small, and a number of people could have been chosen. To be trusted with that responsibility was a real privilege.”
The final was the second Hockey World Cup final Amber has officiated, further cementing her reputation among the world’s leading hockey umpires. The final also marked a significant personal milestone for Amber as it was her 150th international game in the role.
“The match itself was outstanding, with two quality teams playing at an exceptional level. The shootout certainly added plenty of suspense at the end.”
Amber shared the field with Scottish umpire Sarah Wilson, making the occasion even more memorable.
“That was also a real highlight. Sharing a second final together with a good friend made it even more special.”
The 2026 tournament was Amber’s third Hockey World Cup appearance. Since officiating her first international match in 2009 and receiving her international badge in 2010, she has gone on to umpire at three Olympic Games, in Rio, Tokyo and Paris, as well as the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Reflecting on her journey, Amber credits the support of those around her for helping make these achievements possible.
“I’m definitely proud of where umpiring has taken me, but none of it happens alone. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends and our wider hockey community. They’ve been behind me every step of the way.”
Amber also acknowledged the support she receives from OneSchool Global.

As Amber settles back into her role at OSG NZ, she is already looking ahead to her next officiating challenge, with hopes of being appointed to New Zealand’s Premier Hockey League later this year.
