Fresh out of OneSchool Global’s Nyby Campus in Sweden, Zenia imagined herself beginning a career in sales. Instead, she found herself stepping into the world of marketing – a role she hadn’t even considered until the right opportunity came along.
Now working as a Marketing Assistant at Demex, a Swedish company specialising in gates and dog fencing, Zenia has discovered a career that combines creativity, customer service, event planning and sales – all within a workplace she genuinely enjoys.
“I never thought marketing was something I’d love,” she admits. “But once I started, I realised there was so much more to it than I expected.”
A few years earlier, Zenia had spent a summer working at the company and immediately connected with its culture.
“I really enjoyed it, and ever since then I’d thought it was somewhere I’d like to work.”
When she graduated in June 2025, the first vacancy she applied for was an assistant to the Sales Manager. It felt like the perfect role.
“There was another girl in my class who applied too. We both went for interviews, and she got the job. That put me down a bit.”
Rather than dwelling on the disappointment, Zenia continued interviewing elsewhere while keeping an eye on opportunities at Demex. Soon afterwards, another position became available – this time as a Marketing Assistant.
“I gave myself a little time before accepting because I wanted to see if anything else came up. But in the end, I realised Demex was the only place I really wanted to work.”
It turned out to be exactly the right decision.
Today, Zenia’s role extends far beyond social media. Alongside marketing, she supports sales, works directly with customers, and helps organise company events, giving her experience across multiple areas of the business.
“I thought marketing was just posting on LinkedIn,” she laughs. “There’s actually so much more behind it.”
With every new project greater confidence has come. The responsibilities she once avoided at school have become opportunities to grow.
“At school, I never wanted huge responsibility, even with organising small events. Now I’m trusted to organise things at work. It was a bit daunting at first, but you learn, and then you start enjoying having that responsibility.”
For Zenia, one of the biggest surprises has been how much she enjoys the workplace itself. Demex’s young, social team has made the transition from school to full-time employment feel natural.
“We all take our work seriously, but there’s also a great social atmosphere. It’s just a really enjoyable place to be.”
After graduating from a close-knit campus, finding another supportive environment made all the difference.
“I loved the social side of school and didn’t really want that to end. Working somewhere that still has that feeling has been really important.”
Looking back, Zenia believes OneSchool Global prepared her in ways she didn’t fully appreciate until she entered the workforce.
“At school, you don’t learn exactly what it’s like to have a job, but OSG teaches you how to learn. It encourages you to be independent and gives you the skills you need after school.”
That mindset continues to help her every day.
“There are things I don’t know yet, and sometimes I get stuck. But every day I learn something new, and that’s the part I really enjoy.”
It’s a feeling that reminds her of one of her favourite subjects at school – mathematics.
“I loved math’s because you’d finally understand something after working through it. It was like a light bulb moment. Work feels the same now. When something finally clicks, you just want to keep learning.”
For current OneSchool Global students, Zenia’s advice is simple.
“Have fun but get your work done first. My sister always used to tell me, do the work first, then you can enjoy yourself.'”
She also encourages students to make the most of their time and avoid one habit she’s happy to leave behind.
“Don’t procrastinate. Once you start working, you realise you can’t just leave things until next week.”
Zenia’s journey shows that sometimes the role you never expected is the one that helps you discover exactly where you’re meant to be.
