OneSchool Global is proud to celebrate Ryan Barnett, a primary school teacher based in our UK region who has successfully completed the Primary Teaching Apprenticeship with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through the Best Practice Network – a significant milestone in his teaching career and a testament to his commitment to students and lifelong learning.
A rigorous and rewarding pathway
Ryan undertook the one‑year Primary Teaching Apprenticeship, supported by OneSchool Global teacher and dedicated mentor, Mrs Sam Saxton (KS2 Lead/ACP), and a personal tutor allocated by the Best Practice Network.
The program combined consistent classroom placement with a Year 5 class teacher and weekly online training sessions focused on key areas of teaching practice and the national curriculum.
The course centred on five core curriculum areas:
- Behaviour and classroom management
- Curriculum delivery (planning)
- Curriculum delivery (teaching)
- Curriculum delivery (assessment)
- Development of the teacher
Assessment was thorough and ongoing, including weekly informal lesson observations, mentor meetings, half‑termly formal observations, assignments, reflective journals, an online portfolio of evidence, intensive training weeks, and a final end‑point assessment conducted by an external body.
For his hard work, Ryan was awarded the course ‘WAGOLL’ (What a good one looks like) Award, for his exemplary online portfolio, assignment work and evidence that was shared with other student teachers.
Reflecting on the experience, Ryan shared: “I have learnt so much since the start of this academic year, let alone since beginning the course. And I’ve felt so supported by OneSchool during my studies.”
A career built on steady progression
Ryan joined OneSchool Global Northwich campus in September 2022 as a Learning Support Assistant, working primarily with Year 3. He later progressed into a Higher Level Teaching Assistant role, supporting both primary and secondary students.
In September 2024, he began his apprenticeship as an Unqualified Teacher, working alongside Mrs Gibbons in Year 5. Since then, he has taken on the role of Year 5 class teacher – a role he has embraced with enthusiasm!
A passion for breaking down barriers
Ryan’s motivation to become a teacher is rooted in a deep commitment to inclusion and student support.
“I wanted to become a teacher because I was passionate about breaking down barriers and providing effective education and support to all pupils,” he explains. “Supporting pupils with a range of needs to achieve their goals is a big area of passion for me.”
He also draws inspiration from his own schooling: “I enjoyed learning and had meaningful and memorable learning experiences – I wanted to provide that for others.”
Why OneSchool Global?
Ryan values OSG’s innovative approach to learning and the way it empowers students.
“I enjoy teaching at OneSchool Global because of its innovative approach to learning,” he says.“The focus on student independence, blended learning and the use of technology allows me to teach in a way that is engaging and tailored to individual pupils’ needs.”
He adds that the students themselves make the experience even more rewarding: “Our pupils are genuinely interested in learning and wanting to progress themselves to be life ready.”
Looking ahead
For now, Ryan is focused on refining his practice and becoming the best teacher he can be.
“I’m unsure what the future looks like, but I imagine there could be some links to SEND, IT/digital tools or supporting other trainee teachers further down the line.”
Outside of work, Ryan prioritises time with family and friends and enjoys taking his cockapoo, Honey, on long walks. He’s a regular at the gym and has recently taken up padel tennis, “after leaving running in the summer,” he adds with a smile.
Congratulation, Ryan. We’re proud to have you at OneSchool Global.
