OneSchool Global Maryborough students welcome local MP after demonstrating civic leadership

OneSchool Global Maryborough has welcomed local MP John Barounis to campus following a student‑led initiative that highlighted the school’s commitment to civic engagement and student‑directed learning.

impressed Mr Barounis, who accepted an invitation to meet the students and tour the campus.

Mr Barounis said he was encouraged by the students’ engagement in local issues and was impressed by OSG’s approach to self‑directed learning and teacher development.

“I wrote to Willow and Zari to thank them for their letter and for sharing their concerns with me – it is so encouraging when young people get engaged in local issues,” Mr Barounis said.

The visit also connected with recent learning experiences for OSG’s primary students, who toured Parliament House earlier this term. During the campus tour, Year 3 student Myla presented Mr Barounis with a handwritten letter outlining her ideas for the region.

Regional Principal Tom Percasky said the visit reflected the school’s values in action.

“Civic engagement enhances students’ education and prepares them to be engaged members of their community once they graduate.

“We thank Mr Barounis for taking the time to visit our Maryborough campus today to meet and speak with our students and staff.”
