From Calgary to Vancouver, teaching at OneSchool Global is packed with possibilities

Nicole Chevrier didn’t expect a career move to reshape her entire approach to teaching – but that’s exactly what happened. In 2022, as she prepared to relocate across provinces in Canada, she began exploring new teaching opportunities. What she found wasn’t just a job, but a school community that aligned with the kind of educator she wanted to be.

While searching for teaching opportunities in Canada, Nicole was contacted by OneSchool Global’s North America recruitment team about a secondary teaching position at the Vancouver campus. Although she was moving to Calgary, OneSchool’s flexible model – including remote teaching and cross‑campus collaboration – meant the opportunity could follow her. The role was a strong match for her skills, and the Calgary campus could accommodate the position.

Intrigued, Nicole entered the interview process. With each conversation, she became more impressed by what teaching at OneSchool could look and feel like. The blend of on‑campus and remote learning, the smaller class environments, and the strong sense of community all stood out. It felt different – and more importantly, it felt right.

Nicole’s path toward teaching began long before her professional career. As a child, she would set up a classroom at home, lining up dolls and stuffed animals as her ‘students’. She always knew she loved helping others learn, explaining concepts and supporting people as they discovered something new.

After three years at the Calgary campus, guiding students in grades 7 -12 through history, geography and the ideas that shape the modern world, Nicole transferred to the Vancouver campus and settled in seamlessly.

What keeps Nicole at OneSchool Global

What Nicole values most is the involvement of parents and the wider school community. “The parents truly care,” she reflected. From replying promptly to emails to volunteering with lunch monitoring or shadowing to become a coach in the Learning Center, families contribute meaningfully to campus life. Teachers feel supported and appreciated, and the shared commitment to student success creates a culture where staff and families work as genuine partners.

In the classroom, Nicole is passionate about making meaningful connections with her students. She draws on her experience playing varsity volleyball at university to emphasise teamwork, innovation and perseverance.

And while Nicole doesn’t expect her students to become historians, she loves to help them discover that history is full of fascinating stories. “They’re wanting to come to class to compare long ago events with current ones and then I can say, ‘Yeah, history really is kinda cool’ and then it really clicks for them.”

Nicole also enjoys her role in the Secondary Learning Center where she supports students with time management, organisation and study strategies. “It’s great to see the grades 7-12 students moving about so seamlessly to different learning zones that best suit their learning. You would think it would be so loud, with so many students working on different things, but they know how to use the Learning Center so well.”

Outside of school, Nicole embraces her creativity. Her home is filled with art stations dedicated to crocheting, watercolor paintings, coloring and drawing – a space where she can unwind and recharge. She’s even given pottery a try!

Four years on: purpose, connection, and growth

Four years into her journey with OneSchool Global, Nicole continues to value the flexibility, connection and sense of purpose that first drew her to teaching. Whether teaching remotely, leading class discussions, collaborating with colleagues across campuses or chatting with parents, she remains grounded with that same genuine love of helping others learn and grow.

For those considering working at OneSchool Global, Nicole offers this advice:

“If you are thinking of applying for a role at OneSchool Global, do it! If you love teaching, if you love seeing students succeed and have those aha moments, this seriously is the place for you! It’s genuinely the best place for staff development, I feel supported and it’s just such a happy place. If you want to be happy at work as a teacher, come here!”
