Our European students’ recent AQA Project Qualification results are a great example of this approach in action.
Students across OneSchool Global Europe have achieved an exceptional set of results in their AQA Project Qualifications, demonstrating not only their academic ability, but their capacity to take ownership of their learning, manage complex projects and communicate their ideas with confidence.
An AQA Project Qualification gives students the opportunity to independently research and explore a topic of their choice through an extended project.
Rather than simply learning and recalling information, students take responsibility for their own project from start to finish. They identify a question or area of interest, conduct independent research, plan and manage their work, evaluate their findings, and communicate what they have learned.
The qualification provides students with an authentic opportunity to develop skills that are valuable well beyond the classroom, including critical thinking, research, problem-solving, project management, communication, creativity and evaluation.
As one student reflected:
“The EPQ was a very independent experience, and while I found the process quite challenging at times, it gave me the opportunity to take responsibility for a project from start to finish. It was interesting to develop my own ideas and see them become a finished project.”
For many students, the project began with a question or an area they were genuinely curious about.
From technology and entrepreneurship to creative arts, science and innovation, students explored a diverse range of topics and invested significant time and effort into developing their projects. Many dedicated more than 120 hours to their chosen topic.
Managing a project of this scale requires students to become increasingly independent. They need to set goals, manage their time, make decisions, overcome challenges and take responsibility for the quality of their work.
These are capabilities that matter in the real world.
The experience encourages students to move beyond simply asking, “What is the answer?” and instead consider, “How can I find the answer, evaluate what I discover and communicate it effectively?”
A highlight of the AQA Project Qualification was the online presentation series, where students presented their findings to a live audience and participated in stakeholder Q&A sessions.
For students, this provided an authentic opportunity to put their communication skills into practice.
They had to explain their ideas clearly, respond to questions, think on their feet and confidently engage with an audience. These experiences help students develop the adaptability and confidence needed when communicating in further study, the workplace and everyday life.
The final AQA results were an outstanding reflection of the quality of student work.

Behind these results was a significant investment from students, alongside the guidance and support of teachers, supervisors and assessors throughout the process.
One teacher explained:
