OneSchool Global’s Mount Victoria (NSW) Campus Principal, April Taylor, has reinforced herself as respected voice in education contributing a chapter to a newly released book which has been launching across Australia.
The book, Cultivating Cultures of Thinking in Australian Schools: From Control to Curiosity, draws on Ron Ritchhart’s “Creative Cultures of Thinking” and focuses on practical ways teachers can build deeper thinking in the classroom.
“Educators face a real challenge today,” says April.
“Students can search for answers instantly or generate AI responses, but that doesn’t mean that they are learning to think.
“In my chapter, I focus on risk-taking and curiosity. These are essential if students are to prepare for the future. As educators, we must create this space and model ourselves.”
April has worked at the OneSchool Global since 2012 and has seen the impact of OSG’s learning to learn framework firsthand. The approach supports students to ask questions and develop their own solutions.
“In a world full of misinformation, the role of teachers matters more than ever” says April. “Our job is to shape students who question, test ideas and think independently.”
“I hope my contribution gives fellow educators something practical to reflect on, especially those committed to preparing students for real-world challenges.”
Cultures of Thinking in Australian Schools is inspired by the approach of Ron Ritchhart from Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
