OSGAccelerate

OneSchool Global is pleased to announce the introduction of our new ‘life-ready’ course for senior students, OSGAccelerate. Partnering closely with the renowned FranklinCovey organisation, the program is designed to empower students in their final two years of school to be better ‘life-ready’ when they join the workforce.

Replacing the former Career Advantage Program (CAP), OSGAccelerate has been mindfully designed to better align with the needs of today’s students and businesses. Its key partner, FranklinCovey, is the world leader in helping build exceptional leaders, teams, and cultures that get results.

A world-leading focus on soft skills to be “life-ready”

The new OSGAccelerate course curriculum addresses feedback from global business owners which suggested an increased emphasis on student soft skills such as communications, cross-cultural awareness, phone etiquette, humility, and prioritisation. Work-readiness is not only about being able ‘to close that sale’ – it’s about celebrating the sale with humility alongside the team.

While the fundamental understanding of business fundamentals continues to play an important role in preparing senior students for post-school success, business owners and future employers want to know that their new starters are above all honest and trustworthy and will be able to enter the workplace with:

  • A desire to grow and to learn and to work respectfully with others
  • A positive attitude coupled with the ability to manage their time and tasks
  • The ability to set challenging goals and see them through.

In order to help develop these skills, the OSGAccelerate curriculum focuses on FranklinCovey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and other development tools that have been proven to help learners achieve results that require lasting changes in human behaviour. It also includes Microsoft-certified courses and education from other external subject-matter experts, to offer increased value and opportunity for students.

They will be supported to develop the skills they need to become highly effective students and adults who are leaders in their school and in their community.

Integrating into OSG curriculum for the 2025 school year

The OSGAccelerate course will debut at the beginning of the 2025 school years in the Southern and Northern Hemispheres, respectively.

To reflect the importance of students’ life-readiness, OSGAccelerate will become a ‘business-as-usual’ subject globally, and considered a formal department such as English, Mathematics, etc.  A Global and regional Head(s) of Department will be appointed, teachers will be trained on each campus, and students will have the ability to book tutorials. The entire course is 60 hours for students in each of the Senior school years, undertaken during the Study.

Key dates for course orientation and kick-off: Southern Hemisphere

  • Course orientation for parents and students in their final two years of schooling will be held the week of Monday 10 February, after which they will receive the course handbook and further information.  The orientation session will be offered over Zoom in the evening for convenience; they will receive an invitation during the first week of the 2025 school year.
  • The OSGAccelerate course will begin the week of 17 February.

» For Parents: Information Regarding Administration and Fees

OSGAccelerate will be delivered by OneSchool Global, rather than administered by UBT’s Career Training Institute as per the former CAP course.

OSGAccelerate has been designed to offer increased value and opportunity for students via its relevant content from world-leading organisations. In addition, parents who have been familiar with CAP will notice differences in administration, including:

  • Funding. Overall funding for the OSGAccelerate program will not be required by Community business sponsorships.

  • CAP Fee Subsidy. Parents of OSGAccelerate participants will not receive the CAP Fee Subsidy as it will not be an extra-curricular scholarship program. However, any parents who are experiencing hardship or have difficulty meeting school fees in general can still use the Fee Relief program. Points of contact for information regarding OSG fee relief is available in the FAQs for Parents.

  • Debenture transition. As OSGAccelerate is not an extra-curricular scholarship program, there will not be a debenture offered. Students in their final year in 2025 will receive half the denture to cover the one year of the CAP course they completed in the previous year.

  • Work placement (AU only). Australia was the only region with compulsory work placement offered as part of CAP; it will not be offered as part of OSGAccelerate due to risk and safety concerns.

» For OSG Educators: Professional Development Opportunity and Other Impacts

Selected educators in Australia and New Zealand will notice OSGAccelerate has been integrated into their 2025 timetable.

Educators who teach the OSGAccelerate program will be provided professional development support by FranklinCovey, as part of a two-part orientation and professional development package that includes:

  • OSGAccelerate course orientation, which will be scheduled between 2-6 December.

  • The renowned FranklinCovey ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ training course. The course is offered to the general public via FranklinCovey’s corporate leadership courses portal for a fee of $240 USD; however OSG funds the cost for educators.

They will be allocated time to complete it during their official PD time between November 2024 and end January/early Feb 2025, and can expect to invest approximately 1.5 hours per session to total approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes. The course will be available for the selected educators from 20 November 2024.

We hope that our educators will find the FranklinCovey development opportunities beneficial not only in their careers, but in their personal lives as well. Advocates of the 7 Habits development course have noted:

  • High return-on-investment of time. Learning and applying these habits often has a long-term positive impact on productivity, relationships, and personal growth, making the time investment worthwhile.

  • Immediate benefit. The course is categorised as personal as well as professional development, as the Habits can be applied in many contexts. They can be applied directly into one’s daily routine with minimal extra time required, making the habits easy to apply immediately and integrate gradually.

Considering the impact to educator workload

Following feedback shared via the Staff survey, we have designed the course to have minimal impact on the secondary teacher workload, working holistically with third-party partners such as FranklinCovey.

  • Educators will not be required to write the course or supporting materials.

  • Approximately 80% of assignments will be automatically marked. Only the key 20% of assessments will be marked by the teacher, to allow us to manage the marking workload to focus on the most important assessments.

  • Orientation for the students will be led per region.

Information for CAP Coordinators

The OSG leadership team would like to thank our CAP coordinators for your passion and support of the former CAP program.

The introduction of OSGAccelerate as a core curriculum means that the CAP program will no longer exist. Therefore, the CAP Coordinator role, along with the CRL Community volunteer role, is no longer required. We understand that this is a significant change for you, and have asked your Regional Director of Education to contact you individually. If you are interested in becoming an OSGAccelerate educator, please reach out to your Campus Principal.

» For Career Readiness Leads (CRLs) in the Community

As mentioned the OSG leadership team expresses their deep appreciation for your volunteer support of CAP since 2017.

The introduction of OSGAccelerate means the primary costs of CAP (fee relief subsidy and debenture) are no longer relevant, and workplacement will no longer be part of the program. Therefore, business sponsorships coordinated by CRLs are no longer needed to fund the program, and the CRL volunteer role will no longer exist.

CRLs are asked to stay involved with the CAP until all their currently-enrolled students have completed any remaining workplacement or until the 2025 school year commences.

If they have any questions, please contact Jeff Weeks, Global Pathways Lead, at [email protected].

» For Community Business Owners

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback in the business owners survey. As you can see, your input has brought about significant enhancements to the way we educate our students to be life-ready.

OSGAccelerates’ program design means that you will no longer be asked by CRLs to contribute funding, as the program will be funded through the Global Funding Team OneNumber. Within Australia, there will no longer be work placements through this program.
