OneSchool Global’s Adelaide Campus students, supported by Federal Member Nicolle Flint MP, have today presented a cheque for $2,338 to Seacliff Surf Lifesaving Club to help fund a submersible wheelchair and a surfboard designed for children with disabilities.
Students across both the primary and secondary school at OneSchool Global’s Adelaide Campus initiated a student bike-a-thon to raise the funds.
Inspired by the Surf Club’s Beach for All Program, the students were enthusiastic to support existing initiatives of the club including their beach access mat and existing submersible wheelchair.
“We all love the beach and the water, and we appreciate what Seacliff SLSC do to enable others who find accessing the beach difficult to have the opportunity to enjoy it in the same way we do,” said year 12 Student, Jay Hack.
OneSchool Global South Australia’s District Principal, Mr. Brock Traeger, was impressed with the students’ initiative in organising the event and deciding where they would donate their funds.
“Our students and their families, who are members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, are committed to supporting the local community, making sure everyone, regardless of their abilities, gets to enjoy the beach,” said Mr. Traeger.
“This was a student-led event and it was great to see the school and community spirit on display to raise money for such a great cause.”
Federal Member for Boothby, Ms Nicolle Flint MP, said she was thrilled to see young students putting their efforts towards helping disabled members in the Adelaide community.
“Everyone deserves to get out in the sunshine and enjoy our beautiful South Australian beaches. On behalf of our local community, I’d like to thank the students of OneSchool Global’s Adelaide campus for working together with our wonderful volunteers at the Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club to support people who would not otherwise be able to go onto the beach or into the water,” Ms Flint said.
Seacliff SLSC’s Beach for All Program has seen the club become the first in South Australia to provide a beach wheelchair access mat that travels to the water’s edge.
Students and staff were delighted to present the cheque to Club President, Dr. Glen Patten OAM at the Surf Club on Friday September 6.
“Seacliff SLSC has proudly serviced the community for nearly 90 years, and fundraising support from the local community is critical in enabling the Club to deliver on its mission to save lives, create great Australians and build better communities,” said Dr. Patten.
“We are really appreciative of OneSchool Global Adelaide Campus’ support and really pleased that the students took the initiative to support a program that makes such a difference to people’s ability to enjoy the beach”.
