Following their win our OneSchool Global Perfect Pitch competition, student entrepreneurs from Team Max have taken their innovative idea to the next level, with the help of industry mentorship and a surprise cash reward.
Earlier this year, the Perfect Pitch competition saw OSG students from around the world grouped in international teams to develop and pitch their innovative business ideas to a panel of experts, in a competition based on the reality TV shows Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank.
Team Max impressed judges with their concept for a smart cement mixer designed to deliver perfect mixes every time. This ground-breaking design aims to make life easier for tradespeople, improving efficiency on worksites. For this team of innovators, winning Perfect Pitch was just the beginning!
Real business guidance
As part of their prize, the team participated in an exclusive mentorship session with experienced business owners and professionals. The team received in-depth feedback on developing their idea and potentially taking it to market, alongside practical advice for their careers after school.
For Gretchen (Hamilton, Victoria), the session was full of actionable takeaways.
“We learned so much — from not being afraid to ask your boss questions, to surrounding yourself with people who can help you move forward faster. The importance of being hungry, humble, and smart really stuck with me.”
Donovan (Launceston, Tasmania) added:
“The insights were incredibly valuable, and we’re all really excited about what could come next. We’re committed to developing our idea further.”
A surprise reward
To the surprise and delight of the students, during the mentorship session each team member was awarded a $1,000 cash prize, in recognition of their creativity, teamwork and commitment to innovation in the Perfect Pitch program.
Laying the foundations for future success
A common theme of the program more broadly, Perfect Pitch judge and mentor Simon Whiley continued to be impressed by the students’ drive and professionalism:
“They’re building a strong foundation. What they’re learning in school is translating directly into how they think about business. Honestly, I’d hire them all tomorrow!”
This mentorship opportunity reflects OSG’s mission, to ‘develop life-ready students who learn how to learn and achieve’. Our educators are committed to extending students beyond merely academic knowledge, enabling them to develop the skills, confidence, and real-world experiences that truly prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
